The first of three new Commonwealth Games venues officially opens

Coomera Indoor Sports Centre was officially opened on Friday 5 August 2016, as the first of three new venues being delivered for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018).

The Coomera Indoor Sports centre, which boasts 8 mixed-use sports courts and a gymnastics arena, was delivered more than 18 months before it is needed to host the netball finals and gymnastics competition for the GC2018. Read more >>

North Queensland Stadium

The Department of State Development is leading the delivery of the North Queensland Stadium project which is expected to generate up to 750 jobs throughout the design and construction stages. The $250 million centrally located, best-practice regional stadium will be built in Townsville in time for the start of the 2020 National Rugby League season.

Engaging local industry and generating jobs is one of the key objectives for the North Queensland Stadium project and the local industry will be provided with full, fair and reasonable opportunities to tender for the project. Read more >>

Realising the potential of the state’s biomedical and life sciences sector

The department is preparing a Biomedical and Life Sciences 10-Year Roadmap, in consultation with relevant stakeholders, to diversify Queensland's industry base, create high-value, well paid, knowledge-based jobs and drive export growth.

The life sciences sector in Queensland includes activities in human and animal health and disease (biomedical sciences). The life sciences sector also encompasses applications in agricultural, environmental and industrial biotechnology. Read more >>
