The Queensland Government is advancing master planning for priority ports - Gladstone, Abbot Point, Townsville and Hay Point/Mackay in accordance with the Sustainable Ports Development Act 2015 and consistent with the Reef 2050 Long-Term Sustainability Plan.

The Worker Transition Scheme (WTS) has been developed to coordinate the Queensland Government's response, and provides assistance and information for those affected by the Queensland Nickel Refinery's voluntary administration.
The Queensland Government is committed to phasing out sand mining on North Stradbroke Island by 2019 and expanding the island's existing industries to ensure a strong, sustainable economy for all who live there. A Draft North Stradbroke Island Economic Transition Strategy has been developed which aims to drive sustainable tourism, expand education and training opportunities and foster business development and growth.

The commercial-in-confidence business case for the proposed North Queensland Stadium in Townsville has been finalised and provided to the Australian Government. The business case identified a $250 million best-practice regional stadium model in-line with other regional stadia in Queensland, nationally and internationally. If the project proceeds, it could create hundreds of jobs during its construction phase and deliver flow-on benefits to the accommodation, food and beverage, transport and local retail sectors.
