The Commonwealth Games Village is the catalyst project for one of the largest urban renewal projects ever undertaken on the Gold Coast. The Queensland Government has selected private developer Grocon to redevelop 7 hectares of the 29 hectare Parklands site as a mixed community which will provide accommodation and services to 6500 athletes and officials for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth GamesTM. Brisbane experienced the best of regional Queensland over two big days at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. From 12-13 June 2015, the department’s Regional Queensland Showcase highlighted investment opportunities, jobs, housing and lifestyle benefits available to those considering a move to regional Queensland. In May 2015, Queensland operator Airwork Helicopters, one of Australia’s leading helicopter flight training schools, successfully gained approval from CASA to manufacture tail rotor blades for Bell 206 helicopters. Department staff from the SEQ North regional office have been working with Airwork Helicopters since 2010. They were instrumental in helping Airwork with an early stage grant that helped get the project started, developing a business plan and preparing them for a professional and successful Business and Industry Transformational Incentive application.
