Key features

The project proposes to convert 1.5 million tonnes per annum of coal to produce ammonia, synthetic natural gas and electrical power. The project consists of the following components:

  • coal supply system
  • coal gasification plant
  • gas processing plant
  • ammonia processing plant
  • combined cycle gas power generation plant
  • utilities and ancillary infrastructure.
Expected project completion 2023
  • 800 (construction over two years)
  • 200 (operational)

Environmental impact statement (EIS) process

30 April 2022 'Coordinated project’ declaration lapsed.
17 December 2021 Coordinator-General stated a new project declaration lapse date of 30 April 2022.
25 August 2020 Assistant Coordinator-General, as delegate of the Coordinator-General, stated a new project declaration lapse date of 23 December 2021.
