Assessment of IFS application
When assessing an IFS application, the Coordinator-General may take into account a range of issues, including:
- potential to contribute to community wellbeing and economic growth or employment levels
- contribution to agricultural, industrial, resource or technological development in Australia, Queensland or the region
- existing and forecasted infrastructure demand
- effects on landowners
- effects on native title holders
- environmental impacts
- proponent's technical capacity to undertake the project
- proponent's financial capacity to undertake the project
- submissions received from stakeholders.
After assessing an IFS application, the Coordinator-General may recommend to the Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning that the application be referred to the Governor in Council for consideration.
The Minister may then refer the application to the Governor in Council for consideration and possible approval.
Notices of all IFS approvals are published in the Queensland Government Gazette.
If the approved IFS is a private sector facility, the Coordinator-General is also required to publish a statement of reasons in the Gazette, explaining why the facility was approved as an IFS.
