Our approach and values

The Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government, and Planning has an exceptionally long name (call us DSDILGP for short), but we have a clear purpose.

We are the State Shapers. This is the place to be if you want to make a big difference to Queensland. We’re thinking ahead and acting now to set Queensland up for a better tomorrow.

We’re the department that future-senses. Queenslanders rely on us to scan and make sense of the economic road ahead. We’re the economic development department, relied upon to work with industry, the community, and researchers to bring about and sequence the big economic shifts. We live in a community, not just an economy. Securing our liveability while we develop our economy is challenging, but essential.

Partnerships with our customers and stakeholders are important to us, as we work to deliver policies, programs and services that support industry while reflecting the needs of the broader community

Our workplace culture

Our workplace culture is important to us. We are a high-performing department of approximately 1000 employees, with offices located throughout Queensland. We have enthusiastic people making a difference in cities and small towns, by the coast and in the outback. We support each other to go further together. We live by our guiding principles and channel our passion for our work into real benefits for Queensland.

We also value responsiveness. To work with us you need to be agile and open to change. Our role profiles are indicative and may flex in response to changing departmental goals, priorities and activities, not to mention to better align to your own strengths as you learn and grow with us.

Our guiding principles

We value candidates who connect to our purpose and want to lean-in to our Guiding Principles, bringing their best to their role.

Our guiding principles are how we achieve our purpose and priorities:

  • Hearts in, hands on: We are passionate and get to work
  • Find a way to done: We take accountability and finish the job
  • Have a crack. Learn. Repeat: We take appropriate risks, have a bias for action, learn from the outcomes and continuously improve
  • Go further together, steer the way: We work collaboratively, but use our influence to get outcomes
  • Be surprisingly helpful: We deliver unexpected quality of service to our colleagues and our stakeholders
