Proposed global scale Energy Hub one step closer for NQ
Townsville is a step closer to a huge industry and jobs boost with the proposed Townsville Energy Chemicals Hub (TECH) being declared a prescribed project.
The TECH plans to use advanced manufacturing techniques to refine ore into the critical metals needed to make new-technology batteries for electric vehicles. It’s the perfect demonstration of the new opportunities we’re seizing for Queensland as the world pursues renewable energy.
It’s estimated it would create around 800 construction jobs and another 1700 direct and indirect jobs.
Included are an estimated 250 highly skilled advanced manufacturing jobs at the facility and 1450 jobs in support industries.
Projects like this hub put Queensland and Townsville at the heart of the growing global demand for the machinery and commodities that will power the future.
Queensland has always been an energy powerhouse. Now, by aligning our advanced manufacturing skills with low-cost, locally generated energy, we can continue to power the world’s needs with Queensland made goods.
