Mental health hub transformation for Ayr

Ayr Caledonian Hall will be transformed into the Burdekin Mental Health Hub and Suicide Prevention Safe Haven thanks to an $808,500 grant.

The funding allows not-for-profit organisation selectability to create the hub, which will be used as a mental wellbeing, suicide prevention and training facility.

The project includes re-modelling of the hall, doorways and toilets. The hub will also feature fully equipped training rooms, sound-proof consultation rooms, offices, a commercial kitchen, air-conditioning and fans, an outdoor shed and fencing.

Selectability already works with government and health groups to provide vital programs around mental wellbeing and suicide prevention. The new mental health hub will bring more services, programs and activities to this high-need area.

The new facility will also house its own Registered Training Organisation. This will specialise in community services qualifications and short courses, supporting employment for the Burdekin community.

The project is expected to be completed by June 2022, pending development application approval.
