Funding set to boost community services on Cassowary Coast

Cassowary Coast community organisation Tully Support Centre (TSC) will expand its community services thanks to funding received under the department’s $8 million Community Infrastructure Investment Partnership program.

The $340,085 grant will help increase the team’s capacity to improve client outcomes, delivering more outreach services and group-based training and programs to the region.

The centre already provides a range of services to help those in need, including domestic and family support, group activities, emergency relief, community education and training. Pandemic restrictions have led to an increase in underlying vulnerabilities in people living in disadvantaged communities.

The new centre will boost these community services. It will include a venue suitable for training and education programs, ready to equip community members with the skills to secure regular, well-paid employment.

TSC manager Shane Greenwood said the Centre was excited to undertake this project, which forms part of a long-term strategic vision to sustainably improve the TSC building to meet current and emerging needs in our community.

“This will create flexible education and training spaces, build community resilience through improved service access, ensure safety and accessibility, and build capacity as a multi-service hub.

“The flexible community training facility and consult rooms funded by the CIIP program will have a long-lasting positive impact on the social, emotional, and economic well-being of our community.

“The benefits will include increased capacity to host outreaching services and to provide group-based programs; improved client outcomes; and increased delivery of training and development programs for vulnerable community members,” Mr Greenwood said.

The Community Infrastructure Investment Partnership program invests in social infrastructure to boost services and create jobs for communities impacted by COVID-19, just like this one.

Work is expected to begin in August 2021 and be completed by August 2022, pending development application approval.
