Cairns export hub takes its next step
The Regional Trade Distribution Centre in Cairns is one step closer to development, with a call for construction tenders now open.
Local providers are encouraged to get involved with this exciting project, which will give Queensland producers easier access to export markets.
A dedicated Regional Trade Distribution Centre in Cairns will provide rapid airfreight access, giving Queensland farmers, graziers, and growers the best opportunity to get their products from paddock to plane to plate as quickly as possible. Whether it’s our fabulous seafood, luscious tropical fruit, vegetables and nuts, or high-quality beef and dairy products, the facilities will provide the perfect means to distribute Queensland’s wide variety of food products.
“Our facility will feature state-of-the-art large cold and freezer rooms, and both temperature-controlled and ambient transit areas,” Air Freight Handling Services Managing Director Barb Ford
The project also means more jobs for Queenslanders. It’s set to create up to 30 on-site jobs during construction, along with operational jobs and ongoing supply chain opportunities once the centre is up and running. It’s all about opening significant opportunities for Cairns and the region.
The project is being supported with an investment of up to $10 million through the Jobs and Regional Growth Fund.
