Building Queensland’s future with today’s waste
Building Queensland’s future with today’s waste
Resource recovery is one sector that will help decarbonise the economy and become a zero-waste society.
Queensland is recycling today’s waste to build for tomorrow, from Cross River Rail to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games infrastructure program to building homes for our growing population. The value of waste is continuing to evolve in the building sector with new construction products being developed every day.
Material shortages impacting building and construction
Over the past few years there have been material shortages that have created delays in the delivery of construction projects.
With continued population growth, Brisbane 2032 and Queensland’s renewable energy transition, demand for building materials and innovative comparable products will continue to be strong.

Could recycled and upcycled products be the solution?
More innovative products are being created from recycled materials, creating more options and helping meet the demand from the building and construction industry.
Casafico have developed a range of innovative building products including walls panels, blocks and mouldings that use waste as an aggregate instead of quarried materials like sand or stone. They are currently establishing a new Manufacturing plant in Morayfield Queensland, as well as a mobile plant.
Another company creating recycled building solutions is Vinidex at Coopers Plains, who use recycled pipe offcuts to create their PVC piping systems.
The Queensland Recycling Modernisation Fund a joint initiative supported by the Queensland and Australian governments, will enable new infrastructure that improves sorting, processing, recycling and remanufacturing of waste. This will help more recyclers like the above companies turn more waste plastics, glass, paper and cardboard into new products.
