Regional Infrastructure Plans
The Queensland Government is committed to delivering 13 new Regional Plans, with supporting infrastructure plans, across every corner of the state as part of the commitment to deliver one million homes by 2044.
Each Statutory Regional Plan will include an Infrastructure Appendix that identifies regionally significant infrastructure needs, supports growth, protects the lifestyle of local communities and strengthens partnerships with local governments.
Incorporating Regional Infrastructure Plans (RIPs) into Regional Plans provides infrastructure planning with statutory weight, improves integration between land-use and infrastructure planning and ensures updates occur through statutory Regional Plan review cycles.
The Infrastructure Appendix advances state interests under the themes of housing, thriving economies and infrastructure. It maintains a place-based approach, focusing on strategic infrastructure relevant to each region and developed through engagement with state agencies, local governments and key regional stakeholders. It also includes infrastructure policy outcomes and future planning considerations to guide how infrastructure supports regional growth.
Far North Queensland is the first region to transition to this integrated model.
Infrastructure is essential to productivity, economic growth, job creation, liveability, innovation and community resilience. Embedding infrastructure planning within the statutory regional planning framework strengthens coordination across government and ensures infrastructure investment supports sustainable regional development.
This approach replaces the former standalone RIP structure and aligns regional land-use planning with regional infrastructure priorities under a single statutory framework.
Infrastructure planning will follow the regional planning area boundaries.
