Queensland is in the biggest decade of infrastructure delivery in our history – Queensland’s Big Build, and it’s all go!
Find out which projects are on the go in your region below.
Projects in the delivery phase are infrastructure commitments and activity over the next four years. Planned projects include investment proposals that are at a planning stage. These are currently being assessed by Queensland Government. All proposals in planning stage are subject to government consideration and final investment decisions.

Featured projects
Energy
Pioneer-Burdekin pumped hydro
The commencement of a detailed design and cost analysis for a potential 5-gigawatt pumped hydro energy storage (PHES) facility in the western Pioneer Valley, approximately 75 kilometers west of Mackay.
This new large-scale PHES asset will allow renewable energy to be stored and dispatched at times when the renewable resources are unable to meet demand, providing secure and affordable energy for more people.
Health
Mackay Base Hospital expansion
The Mackay Base Hospital expansion will deliver an additional 128 beds to support healthcare for the region, including new beds for paediatric, medical and surgical patients. It will deliver more acute, sub-acute, women’s, children’s and neonatal services closer to home.
It also includes a new multi-storey cark park with more than 1,000 spaces to support the expansion, helping more people access the healthcare they need.
Transport
Mackay Port Access Road
The Mackay Port Access will provide a direct link for freight movements from the Mackay Port to the Mackay Ring Road, and west to the Bowen Basin coal fields via the Walkerston Bypass and Peak Downs Highway.
The 9.5km, 2-lane access road from the Bruce Highway at Glenella to Mackay-Slade Point Road (Harbour Road), will improve access to the Port of Mackay while addressing urban congestion in North Mackay—reducing travel time and helping more people get to where they need to be.
