Future Foods

Future Foods is about applying innovative biotechnology to create, manufacture and export appealing new food products and ingredients that are nutritious and sustainable. This biomanufacturing potential has the potential to create value-add processing opportunities for the agriculture industry, supporting Primary Industries Prosper 2050.

The Investing in the Mackay Future Foods BioHub prospectus ( 5.9 MB) seeks to leverage Mackay’s strengths in agriculture, horticulture and manufacturing supported by established ports and infrastructure.

Led by industry, the BioHub will use advanced biomanufacturing to create new food products that are healthy, sustainable and generate jobs and opportunities that complement existing industries.

The Mackay State Development Area, declared in February 2024, will further support industrial development in the Mackay Region including renewable energy and biofutures industries.
