Far North Queensland
This vast and economically diverse region is Queensland’s gateway to the Asia-Pacific. Far North Queensland covers 272,215 square kilometres over 21 local government areas, from Cassowary Coast in the south to the Torres Strait Islands in the north. It includes the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics of Queensland World Heritage listed areas.
You can view projects being planned and delivered in this region below. Projects in the delivery phase are infrastructure commitments and activity over the next four years. Planned projects include investment proposals that are at a planning stage. These are currently being assessed by Queensland government. All proposals in planning stage are subject to government consideration and final investment decisions.

Cairns Marine Precinct Common User Facility
This state-of-the-art facility includes a 5000-tonne shiplift, allowing ships of up to 120 metres in length to be repaired and maintained on three hardstand areas.
The Self-Propelled Modular Transporter will be integral. This is a platform heavy hauler with a large array of wheels that can be positioned in any direction allowing the manoeuvre of large vessels from the shiplift to the sheds and the three hard stand areas.

Cairns University Hospital (Health Innovation Precinct)
The Cairns Health and Innovation Centre will include an auditorium, modern lecture and teaching spaces and computer labs, a series of meeting rooms, flexible open-plan collaboration spaces, staff offices, innovation spaces, highly specialised simulation labs and purpose-built spaces to conduct clinical trials.
Current planning is underway for refurbishment of inpatient wards.
