Structure planning for the future of Caboolture West

The Waraba Priority Development Area (PDA) was declared on 2 August 2024. Further information relating to the Waraba PDA is available including, lodging PDA development applications and transitioning framework from Planning Act 2016 to the Economic Development Act 2012.

Caboolture West, identified as one of the state’s future growth areas, will benefit from an updated structure plan to deliver a new community, with a population similar to that of the city of Mackay.

Caboolture West is a significant growth corridor which is expected to eventually be home to around 70,000 people.

An area of this size will need up to nine new primary schools, four new high schools and other community infrastructure, so getting the upfront planning right will be key to ensuring it is capable of supporting future growth.

That’s why the department has put in place a temporary local planning instrument to allow for the roll out of a new structure plan currently under development with Moreton Bay Regional Council and the state’s Growth Areas Team.

This will pave the way for emerging infrastructure requirements for the area, such as the Bruce Highway Western Alternative, along with social housing and education, health and emergency facilities.

Thanks to the state’s enviable lifestyle and strong health and economic response to the COVID-19 pandemic we are experiencing an unprecedented demand for land and housing in South East Queensland. Good planning in the areas where people want to live, work and play is key to future liveable communities.
