Regional Queensland going for gold in 2032
As Brisbane prepares to host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, a gold mine just 130 km south of Townsville is hoping to be standing with our athletes on the podium.
Gold toiled from Queensland soil at Ravenswood Gold could be adorning Aussie athletes as regional Queensland gets ready to tap into the biggest single transformational project in the state’s history.
Hosting the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games will generate $8 billion in economic and social benefits in addition to 91,600 jobs. Supplying the gold for the medals our great Aussie athletes win in 2032 is one way we’re helping put Queensland businesses on the podium.
The department’s Office of the Coordinator-General already works closely with Ravenswood Gold, assisting with approvals for the new open-cut mining pits and infrastructure that will help keep the mine producing gold until 2034.
The historic Ravenswood Gold mine has successfully mined millions of ounces of gold since 1868. It currently employs over 350 full-time workers and plans are in place to expand the workforce to over 400 full-time workers.
Ravenswood Gold CEO Brett Fletcher said the Ravenswood team is proud to be working with the State Government and our regional business partners in building Queensland’s largest gold mine.
“Our vision is a sustainable, high-performing, long-life, low-cost operation producing pure Queensland gold.” - Ravenswood Gold CEO Brett Fletcher
