Partnering with First Nations businesses to deliver for Queensland
- infrastructure
Queensland’s infrastructure pipeline is not just about roads, rail and schools – it’s about people. Many Queensland people and businesses are building a more inclusive, skilled and resilient workforce.
October is Indigenous Business Month – a great time to highlight First Nations businesses doing great things in Queensland.
Moonyah Workforce: Building skills and opportunities for major projects
Moonyah Workforce, founded by former Wallabies and Queensland Reds players Saia and Anthony Fainga’a, is a Queensland-based business with a vision for inclusion, opportunity and community empowerment. As proud Aboriginal men from the Bundjalung mob, the Fainga’a twins have turned their passion for giving back into a thriving business that supports both individuals and industry.
Moonyah Workforce is helping us deliver on major projects by supplying culturally aware, job-ready workers across construction, mining, healthcare and hospitality. Their services range from pre-employment training and mentoring to ongoing support, ensuring sustainable outcomes for both employers and employees. Moonyah’s workforce has contributed to the M1 upgrade packages, Yatala South exit upgrade, and Mango Hill State School expansion - helping to ensure these projects are delivered by a skilled and inclusive workforce that reflects Queensland’s diversity.
Juru Enterprises Limited: Restoring country, building capability
A standout example of partnership is our five-year, $2.475 million contract with Juru Enterprises Limited (JEL) for land management and restoration at the Abbot Point State Development Area. As Traditional Owners, JEL’s local knowledge has been vital to restoring the Kaili Valley Wetlands and surrounding areas - delivering weed management, habitat regeneration, seed collection, fire management and ecological monitoring. This partnership has delivered environmental outcomes and built capability and capacity within JEL and its employees, supporting jobs and growth in the Bowen region.
Bridgeman: Innovation, inclusion and infrastructure in action
For more than 40 years, Bridgeman, a family-owned Supply Nation-certified Indigenous business, has been shaping Queensland’s infrastructure landscape.
Led by proud Yidinji man and former Socceroo, Adam Sarota, Bridgeman delivers high-quality steel fabrication, engineering and construction services.
Bridgeman is contributing to projects that enhance liveability, economic growth and regional resilience. The company’s commitment to innovation, sustainability and customer focus means projects benefit from advanced technologies, local jobs, and strong community connections.
By engaging local contractors and supply chains, Bridgeman is helping to deliver infrastructure that is not only built for Queenslanders, but by Queenslanders.
