Global partnership, local impact
Global partnership, local impact
Connecting Queensland's world-class research capability with global vaccine development to deliver health, economic and workforce benefits across the state.
- biomedical
The Translational Science Hub (TSH), a partnership between the Queensland Government, Sanofi, The University of Queensland and Griffith University established in 2022, is accelerating the development of next-generation vaccines and healthcare solutions while strengthening Queensland's position as a destination of choice for biomedical R&D, clinical development and manufacturing.
By connecting Queensland's world-class research capability with Sanofi's international vaccine R&D network, the TSH is attracting investment, building specialist skills, expanding clinical trial activity and strengthening the state's biomedical ecosystem.
Delivering outcomes for Queensland
The partnership has already delivered significant outcomes, including progression of a world-first human chlamydia vaccine candidate and the expansion of Queensland's role in global vaccine development programs.
Since the TSH was established, Sanofi has commenced 19 vaccine clinical trials in Queensland, including 10 led by the TSH, and recruited 5,552 trial participants. Queensland now hosts 60% of Sanofi's global vaccine trial activity, highlighting the state's growing importance as a location for clinical development.
The partnership has also created 124 new jobs and enabled 49 research collaborations with Queensland universities, supporting the growth of local expertise, industry capability and commercialisation opportunities across the biomedical sector.
Building regional research capability
The TSH's impact also extends into regional Queensland. Through its work with the Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service Public Health Unit in Rockhampton, as part of the Chlamydia program, the TSH helped establish a dedicated clinical trials team and research capability where none existed before.
Regional clinical trials are now a real option for Australians outside major cities, and these sites can now compete for studies across the industry, strengthening Australia's life sciences capability well beyond any single trial.
