Funding brings safer accommodation to Mackay
The Salvation Army has received funding to upgrade its facilities in Mackay. The $1.616 million grant will help construct emergency accommodation for families impacted by domestic violence.
The project will replace the free-standing fibro dwelling with five new self-contained units. Recent restrictions have resulted in an increased need for emergency accommodation in Mackay. With growing demand from The Salvation Army’s Samaritan House, these new units will provide additional safe accommodation for those in need.
The funding comes thanks to the Community Infrastructure Investment Partnership program. The program invests in social infrastructure to boost community services and create local jobs.
Work is expected to be completed by June 2022.
