Building the foundations for Queensland’s future

Building the foundations for Queensland’s future

  • housing
  • infrastructure
  • planning

Every home in every community begins with the same essential ingredients: power, telecommunications, water, stormwater, roads and sewerage. This infrastructure makes it possible to build houses that will become homes. But what happens when these foundations are missing?

In Queensland, we know our population is growing. There’s an urgent need for more homes. To meet the demand for housing and ensure every Queenslander has a place to call home, we need to invest in the infrastructure that makes development possible. That’s where the Residential Activation Fund (RAF) comes in.

What is trunk and essential infrastructure?

Trunk and essential infrastructure forms the building blocks of everyday life. It includes power, telecommunications, water, stormwater, roads and sewerage.

Without this infrastructure, land remains undeveloped. Homes can’t be built. Families can’t move in. Infrastructure is the invisible framework that supports everything else. It’s what turns a patch of land into homes and homes into a community.

In many parts of Queensland, the lack of infrastructure is holding back growth. Councils and developers are ready to build, but they need help delivering the essential services that make development viable.

The Residential Activation Fund is making room for more homes

The Queensland Government’s $2 billion Residential Activation Fund is designed to tackle this challenge head-on. It’s a bold investment in the future of our state - one that focuses on delivering the infrastructure needed to support housing developments and ease the pressure of population growth.

Here’s how the RAF is making a difference:

  • Supporting councils, developers and landowners to deliver infrastructure projects that enables housing
  • Enabling development by expanding water, waste, and drainage networks
  • Powering communities through electricity upgrades
  • Connecting families with new roads and telecommunications

At least half of the fund is dedicated to regional Queensland, ensuring that communities across the state, from the coast to the outback, benefit from this investment.

Real impact in real communities

Thanks to the RAF, homes are being unlocked across Queensland. In Townsville, a boost to the Northern Beaches Trunk Road Infrastructure Package is opening up new residential areas and enabling up to 2600 homes. In Burketown, supporting infrastructure will enable up to 12 new homes - small in number, but transformational for the local community in North West Queensland.

These projects aren’t just about pipes and power. They’re about creating opportunities for new homes and a variety of housing options. They’re about supporting local economies, attracting new residents, and building places where people want to live.

Planning for growth, building for tomorrow

Infrastructure isn’t just a technical term. It’s the foundation of community life. By investing in trunk and essential infrastructure through the Residential Activation Fund, Queensland is laying the groundwork for a future where every Queenslander has a place to call home.

Because when we build the right foundations, we build stronger, more resilient communities. And that’s something every Queenslander can be proud of.
