For the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, here are the top-five highlights that support our purpose to future-proof Queensland.
1. Regional planning
$31.316 million to deliver 13 new Regional Plans and across Queensland, ensuring well-planned, economically resilient communities with a sharp focus on housing, jobs and infrastructure.
Regional plans shape how and where our communities grow – ensuring every corner of Queensland has access to housing, jobs, and essential infrastructure. These plans provide certainty for councils, developers and locals, and are the blueprint for liveable, economically strong futures in every region.
2. Generational infrastructure
The State’s capital program continues to deliver the infrastructure that connects, powers and grows Queensland.
It’s not just about building roads and rail – it’s about making sure infrastructure supports thriving communities, liveability and long-term prosperity. Generational infrastructure gives Queenslanders better access to jobs, housing and services, and ensures our regions grow sustainably.
3. More homes sooner with the Residential Activation Fund
Up to $1 billion for Round 1 of the $2 billion Residential Activation Fund, providing the infrastructure needed to build more homes sooner right across the state.
The Residential Activation Fund helps unlock housing supply by funding the roads, water, sewerage and other enabling works needed to get development going faster – turning plans into real homes in growing communities. This means more Queenslanders can find a place to call home sooner, with better access to local services and jobs.
4. Building industry through the Sovereign Industry Development Fund
$180.5 million for the Sovereign Industry Development Fund, driving growth in the Defence, Biomedical and Biofuels industries while enhancing regional economic opportunities.
This fund helps us back Queensland’s strengths – from regional biofuels feedstocks to cutting-edge biomedical research and advanced defence manufacturing. It’s about creating local jobs, attracting investment and ensuring our industries compete globally.
5. Delivering the 2032 Games – and beyond
This budget also doubles down on legacy infrastructure for the Brisbane 2032 Games, with $864 million allocated to Games venues and a $950 million initial provision for Athletes Villages, ensuring far-reaching benefits for Queenslanders before, during and beyond the Games.
Our department is supporting the planning and coordination of this once-in-a-generation investment to ensure the benefits extend well beyond Brisbane.
The infrastructure we deliver for the Games isn’t just for the athletes – it's for all of us. From housing in the Athletes Villages to upgraded precincts and transport links, these investments will serve Queenslanders long after the closing ceremony.
