Public notice

Under section 69 of the Economic Development Act 2012 (the Act) the Minister for Economic Development Queensland gives notice ( 25.2 KB) that the Southport Priority Development Area (PDA) Development Scheme has been amended.

The amended development scheme will:

  • provide for the growth of a live music hub on the Gold Coast
  • allow for micro-breweries in appropriate locations
  • introduce a new Built Form and Urban Design Guideline
  • commence a range of other less substantial amendments to improve the currency and operability of the development scheme.

The amendment took effect on 22 July 2022.

The development scheme amendment was publicly notified from 23 November until 22 December 2021. View the submissions report ( 663.2 KB) for public submissions and amendments.

PDA development applications over land in the Southport PDA are now assessed against the Southport PDA Development Scheme dated 22 July 2022.

Key details

The vision for the Southport Priority Development Area (PDA) is to deliver the Gold Coast Central Business District (CBD).

The PDA covers 198.3 hectares in the Southport CBD and includes residential, retail, commercial, financial, educational and community uses.

The PDA was declared on 4 October 2013.

Development scheme

The Southport PDA Development Scheme ( 9.4 MB) is the regulatory document which assists with planning, carrying out, promoting, coordinating, and controlling development within the PDA.

The development scheme came into on 5 September 2014 and was amended on 9 November 2021 ( 107.3 KB) and 22 July 2022 ( 25.2 KB).

In 2021 a proposed amendment to the Southport PDA Development Scheme ( 13.2 MB)  was publicly notified. View the submissions report ( 663.2 KB) for public submissions and amendments.

Development assessment

The City of Gold Coast Council assesses development applications for this PDA.

All development applications are assessed against the development scheme.

Infrastructure

Funding and building infrastructure is key to facilitating development within PDAs and is outlined in the Infrastructure Funding Framework ( 1.4 MB).

Council's adopted infrastructure charges are applicable to development within the PDA.
