The Queensland Government is continuing to work to improve boating safety in Mission Beach by enhancing existing public marine facilities at Boat Bay.
In response to community feedback, the department is now reviewing project proposals, with a focus on developing the Clump Point breakwater to cater for the needs of recreational and commercial users.
Project proposals will continue to respect the natural environment and cultural heritage, and will undergo assessments by a number of state and commonwealth agencies including the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, as part of the approvals process.
Following a community information session at Mission Beach on 18 May 2016, the department is reviewing the scope of project. Tender processes have been withdrawn as part of this process. A plan for moving forward is currently being developed by the department. This will be shared with the community as part of the department’s ongoing commitment to community consultation.
