To support the growth of regional manufacturers, $30 million will be invested into regional Manufacturing Hubs in Cairns, Townsville and Rockhampton to promote and deliver world-leading technologies, processes and practices to regional manufacturers.
Each hub will provide a place for local manufacturing businesses to receive expert advice and support to expand their manufacturing business.
The hubs will develop strong links with local universities, schools and TAFE Queensland to develop a workforce with strong skills in science, technology, engineering and maths.
Consultation with local businesses, local governments, unions and educational institutions in Cairns, Townsville and Rockhampton about the regional strengths of each city has informed the Manufacturing Hub Delivery Model ( 10.7 MB).
Initial key focus areas for each hub include:
- Cairns Hub – marine, aviation and food manufacturing incubator
- Townsville Hub – advanced metal production manufacturing and food transformation through advanced manufacturing
- Rockhampton Hub – rail manufacturing and technology, advanced technologies for metal production and food product innovation
