Trucks line up (courtesy of Maranoa Regional Council)
This project will provide an additional three wash bays - including sewerage and electrical infrastructure - to cater for the increased demand for wash services from the resource and agricultural sectors. The upgrade of the truck washdown facility in Roma is the priority deliverable of the Maranoa Regional Council's Roma Saleyards Masterplan. The Roma Saleyards is the largest (by volume) cattle selling facility in the Southern Hemisphere. The existing facility with its two wash lanes is currently undersized and significantly overused. Currently, the site is a major impediment for logistical businesses that require the services of a wash pad, with users experiencing waiting periods of up-to four hours. The upgrade could reduce the average waiting period by one hour to 1.5 hours. Reducing the average wait could increase industry productivity by around $622,200 per annum, based on current use.
