The project will upgrade the Cooktown Foreshore and Webber Esplanade, which will include works to reclaim land at the mouth of the Endeavour River which has been eroded by storm events. The reclamation will protect the road against further erosion and provide public parkland and an activity area as part of a larger project to develop the Cooktown Foreshore area. The project will:
- construct a rock wall filled with dredge spoil from the Endeavour River
- construct a tidal pool and water play area
- install fishing platforms, interpretive signage, a cycle path and Powder Magazine revitalisation
- upgrade the road to accommodate turning for large vehicles and parking.
Mining is identified as the largest employer in Cook Shire. This project will support the liveability of the area and provide investment opportunities.
