Valuable water resources will be preserved when a water efficient open space management program is implemented in Bowen.
The project includes a 6.3km upgrade and expansion of the Bowen Recycled Water Network, including smart technology. Works include upgrade of 1.9km of recycled water pipeline and the extension of the recycled water network by 4.4km west to the Bowen sports field and race course. The project includes new pumps to the existing Bowen Sewerage Treatment Plant to allow the recycled water scheme to deliver higher rates and reuse a greater percentage of dry weather effluent.
When complete, improved amenity and tourism potential in Bowen, as well as greater water efficiency for Bowen's parks, will support economic growth and reduce effluent discharge volumes to the ocean.
