- Round: 3
The health and wellbeing of the Tully community and surrounding Wet Tropics and Great Barrier Reef will be better protected when a cap is constructed on the redundant section of the Tully Landfill. This will mitigate the risk of contaminant release into the environment during high rainfall events.
Project works include reshaping of 1.6ha of the Cell 1 landfill structure, installing leachate collection systems, and constructing a multi-layer over-cap of clay and geotextile and topsoil. Infrastructure for drainage will be constructed including gabion-style rock baskets and drop structures to reduce velocity and energy of water flow, and drainage lines will direct water to existing sedimentation basins.
