Toondah Harbour was declared a Priority Development Area by the Queensland Government at the request of Redland City Council on 21 June 2013 to revitalise the waterfront site through mixed-use development.

Planning for the area was undertaken by the Queensland Government, in partnership with Redland City Council, and a final development scheme was approved on 29 May 2014.

The Queensland Government and council share a vision for the revitalisation of Toondah Harbour and both levels of government are working in partnership to facilitate the development of this site with the private sector.

The redevelopment of Toondah Harbour will transform the area into a dynamic waterfront precinct that will become a future tourism bayside destination for South East Queensland.

The revitalisation of this site provides an opportunity to support economic development and tourism investment and will enhance Toondah Harbour as a waterfront community and a regional gateway to Moreton Bay and North Stradbroke Island.

Development will include mixed-use, low and medium density residential development as well as tourism and retail-based development, dedicated ferry terminals, public open space and the potential for a private berth marina.

The proposed redevelopment

The Queensland Government, Redland City Council and the private developer, Walker Group, will work together to revitalise Toondah Harbour.

Following a competitive tender process, Walker Group Holdings was selected as the preferred developer for the proposed $1.3 billion redevelopment of Toondah Harbour.

The Walker Group's proposal includes residential, retail, marina development, hotel, port facilities and tourism infrastructure. Details are available on their website.

Walker Group is expected to refer the project to the Commonwealth Minister for the Environment under the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and apply to the Coordinator-General for a coordinated project declaration.

During the environmental impact assessment process, residents will have opportunities to have their say on the project plans.
