The Parklands Priority Development Area (PDA) was declared on 1 February 2013. Land use planning and development within the PDA is being managed by Economic Development Queensland (EDQ). The development of the PDA will support the delivery of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games™ as the site for the Commonwealth Games Village (CGV), while also promoting longer-term development opportunities on the site.

Adoption of the Parklands PDA development scheme

On 6 December 2013 the Parklands PDA Development Scheme was approved by the state government.

Public notification of the Parklands PDA Development Scheme was undertaken under the Economic Development Act 2012 from the 29 July to 13 September 2013 (the submission period). During the submission period all interested parties including the community, residents, and business operators were invited to view the proposed development scheme and make a written submission for consideration by the Minister for Economic Development Queensland.

The public was advised of the notification through letterbox drops in the local area, advertisements in local newspapers and information provided on the department website. The proposed development scheme was also available for inspection at several community information sessions during the submission period.

All the submissions received were considered and the proposed development scheme was amended in response to issues, where appropriate. A report was prepared which summarised the submissions received, the merits of those submissions and the extent to which the proposed development scheme was amended to reflect the submissions.

On 25 October 2013 the submissions report and development scheme were submitted to the MEDQ for consideration. A copy of the submissions report approved by the MEDQ can be downloaded from the link below.

People who made a submission during the submission period were notified that the development scheme has been approved and is now in effect.

The development scheme is the planning document that will assist in planning, carrying out, promoting, coordinating and controlling the development of land in the Parklands PDA. The development scheme supersedes the interim land use plan which no longer has effect.

All development applications within the PDA will now be assessed against the development scheme.
