The Queensland Government is committed to helping business access major project procurement opportunities to benefit Queenslanders and the broader economy.

We are working closely with Industry Capability Network (ICN Qld) to deliver the Queensland Charter for Local Content which is providing Queensland's business community with full, fair and reasonable access to government procurement.

We are supporting local business by:

  • administering the Queensland Charter for Local Content
  • facilitating local content services to maximise government procurement opportunities
  • collecting and reporting local content achievement and performance.

Supporting local content in major projects

Case studies

ICN Queensland Black Business Finder

The Queensland Government is helping indigenous businesses around the state to benefit from Queensland's major projects.

Commissioned by the government, the ICN Qld has developed the Black Business Finder. The database now lists 224 indigenous businesses that employ over 1700 indigenous Queenslanders.

The Black Business Finder is on par and even ahead of many of Australia's more established indigenous databases.

Ambush Security

The department is proud to be a part of the ICN Gateway, a database which is creating great opportunities for Queensland companies such as Ambush Security.

When the security firm was looking to expand into the mining and gas sector, they registered on the database and quickly won a contract with Arrow Energy. This gave Ambush one of their largest jobs, so they're strong supporters of Gateway.

Watpac

The Queensland Government contract to redevelop the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre not only provided state of the art facilities for the region, it also gave local businesses an opportunity to work with a major construction contractor.

The national construction company, Watpac was awarded the contract in 2012. By utilising the ICN Gateway, the construction giant awarded more than 90 per cent of work packages to South East Queensland businesses.

Sunshine Coast Hospital

The department, ICN Qld and Sunshine Coast Regional Council are ensuring the local economy benefits during construction of the region's new hospital.

Development of the Sunshine Coast Public University Hospital is the largest infrastructure project undertaken on the Sunshine Coast. During construction, almost 82 per cent of goods and services are being supplied by South East Queensland and regional businesses.
